On April 27, 2011, 35 residents of DeKalb County perished in the tornados that struck Alabama, causing extensive damage to Rainsville and the surrounding communities in their destructive path. This memorial is a collective effort to remember those who lost their lives and honoring those involved in search, rescue, recovery and rebuilding. This memorial has two sides: the left side is a reminder of the destruction on that day, April 27, 2011 and the right side represents the hope and recovery that is ongoing as the community rebuilds and heals. The 289 sq ft monument was dedicated on April 28, 2012.
